Williamson County’s “Wilco Forward Small Business Grant Program” has issued more than $31.6-million out of the $35-million allocated to assist local small businesses affected by COVID-19.

“The Williamson County approach has been to utilize the CARES Act funds received from the federal government to make an immediate and positive impact in the community. This approach is now being used as an example for other local governments around the nation on how to use these funds properly and efficiently,” said Williamson County Treasurer Scott Heselmeyer.

3,297 applications had been approved as of Monday, June 22. In just the last week, the Williamson County Auditor’s Office says the average grant award has been $9,603.57.

Business owners have until June 30 to submit an application .

“COVID-19 caused a ripple effect of problems in our community. When businesses were forced to shut down, people were left without jobs and a stable income. As we work to restore and rebuild Williamson County, we also want to help reduce the number of residents that could potentially be evicted and be left without a place to call home as a result of COVID-19. That is why this next phase of funding is crucial,” said Williamson County Precinct 3 Commissioner Valerie Covey.
