Travis County and City of Austin close parks ahead of Independence Day

Travis County and the City of Austin have decided to close county and city parks as the 4th of July weekend nears and covid 19 infections continue to boom.

Travis County officials report their parks and boat ramps will be closed starting this Thursday at 8 p.m., adding they remain closed through the Independence Day weekend, perhaps longer.

Austin City officials say they will close their parks from Friday, July 3 through Sunday, July 5. Which recreational facilities (e.g. golf courses, tennis courts, boat ramps, recreation/cultural centers, museums, Austin Nature & Science Center, Zilker Botanical Garden, preserves, etc). All pre-paid park admission passes will be credited to the park patron’s account or refunded.

City staff say they will also close Barton Springs Pool and Deep Eddy Pool starting today, Austin Public Health has recommended those pools closures until further notice. Existing pool reservations will be cancelled. Austin Public Health will evaluate both facilities. Chlorinated pool facilities will continue to operate according to their posted schedules.
