Covid pandemic and housing demand keeps Austin area home prices growing

The Austin Round Rock housing market remains strong in June. Real estate experts said the Corona virus pandemic, paired with historically low interest rates and a few months worth of pent up up buyer demand sent the metro median home price up 4.6% to $340,000.

Austin Board of Realtors President Romeo Mazanilla explained the pandemic is cutting into the area’s housing stock, seeing fewer home build starts and fewer home owners list their homes, thus limiting the area’s supply of homes for sale to 2/3rds its usual count. He added, the demand for an Austin area home remains, which is why housing costs are again rising in the metro area despite covid 19’s impact on economies.
