Accused Arsonist Arrested in Connection to Downtown Austin Fire

A man has been arrested following a fire at an historic building in downtown Austin on March 21.

John Daniel Banks, 32, has been charged with arson for allegedly sparking the blaze at 907 Congress Avenue, which is just blocks away from the Texas Capitol.

The charge is a state jail felony and carries with it up to a decade in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Damage estimates are around $1 million.
