APD hunts for 3rd mass shooting suspect, DA drops charges against others

De'ondre White

Austin Police are on the hunt for a third suspect in the 6th Street mass shooting. APD Interim Chief Joe Chacon says, they are looking for De’ondre White, 19.

Chacon says investigators believe and evidence shows White is responsible for the murder of Douglas Kantor, 25, “as we as shooting many if not all our shooting victims.”  For this APD has issued a murder warrant for White.

But unlike the first two suspects, Chacon says White is still on the loose.

In light of the new evidence and suspect, The Travis County DA Jose Garza says he has dropped the charges against the first two suspects, an unnamed 15 year old and Jeremiah Tabb, 17.

Garza explains dropping these charges is what is in the best interest of the investigation of the shooting. And he adds, its also for the betterment of the prosecution of the person they believe may end up being solely responsible.

However some still question and decry the decision. More so as APD Interim Chief Joe Chacon explained while he respects the DA’s decision, he wants it known that the15 and 17 year old suspect definitely played a role in the shooting, and are not innocent bystanders.
