The clock is ticking for the Austin Police Department as it seeks out applicants for the 144th cadet class, which will be the first class to attend the academy since last year when the city council slashed police funding and manpower in response to social justice protests.  With the training academy starting June 7, applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible because the application period closes tomorrow, May 14.

The Department is hosting an enrollment session which consists of a physical fitness test and written exam.

“We are excited to welcome an outstanding group of cadets to the 144th academy class in a few short weeks,” said Assistant Chief James Mason. “Our instructors have worked diligently to implement a new adult learning curriculum geared toward enhancing community engagement, equity and inclusion. This exciting new approach to cadet training builds resilience and represents the feedback we received from the Austin community.”

After applications are submitted online, applicants will need to choose one testing session from the dates listed below. APD is committed to serving our diverse community and encourages all applicants to attend. All testing sessions begin at 7 a.m. at the Recruiting Office, located at 1520 Rutherford Lane Bldg. 3, Austin, TX 78754.
