Austin lead country in percentage of viewers watching Women’s World Cup Finale

Austin FC

Fox Sports network says just about 47{2db634631ef8bd3f096060bc7daa4fc6677d16e616113d8c02bec6b420e3105c} of Austin TVs tuned into the Women’s World Cup final over the weekend, beating out every other US city in terms of the percentage of viewers.

Austin FC’s Tom Webb said this is only further proof that Austin is a Soccer city. He was out at a few watch parties over the weekend. “Just seeing hundreds if not thousands of people out watching the game in bars where they wanted to soak in the atmosphere.” Its an atmosphere he believes will be felt again in 2021 when Austin FC kicks off its inaugural season.

Justin Sanchez is the executive chef at the Yard House, in the Domain, and with Austin FC building up McKalla Place not to far from his operation, he believes those ratings will translate into more business. Already, Sanchez pointed out, businesses and bars in the Domain are adapting to bring in more soccer-centric customers.

At Yard House, he said, they typically don’t play the sound of any given football or in this case soccer game, but more than half of patrons asked for them to turn it up and so they did. He’s seen other bars around the area hoisting the local teams colors and flags. Another bar even opened up early during the European soccer season to accommodate more fans.

While the Austin FC has yet to play their first game, several businesses are already feeling the effects of the team, Sanchez believes the Domain will also see massive spikes in customers once the team starts playing and is confident it will go beyond bars reaping the benefits.
