Austin to Host Virtual Meeting on Homelessness

Homeless Camp Fire

On Thursday evening, the City of Austin will host a virtual meeting to provide the latest updates on homelessness.

The issue has plagued city officials for years.  In 2019, the Austin City Council voted to allow the homeless to camp in most public spaces, sparking a wave of backlash that eventually culminated in a strong voter rebuke of that decision two years later.  However, since voters reinstated the public camping back in May of 2021, the City of Austin has done little to enforce it, and in recent months a number of new public campsites have begun to reappear.

Thursday’s meeting will address issues such as housing, federal funding through the American Rescue Plan Act, and the camping ban.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.  Registration is required.  You can CLICK HERE to get signed up.
