An active shooter training drill is planned for this week in the Lake Travis Independent School District.

Police officers with the Lake Travis ISD Police Department, Bee Cave Police Department, and Lakeway Police Department will join firefighters with Lake Travis Fire Rescue for the training exercise this Thursday, July 28 at Bee Cave Middle School located at 5400 Vail Divide near Highway 71. The exercise will take place before the new school year begins to help better prepare first responders in the event of an active shooter on a local campus.

In a release from the City of Lakeway, officials said the public needs to be aware there will be a heavy police and fire presence during the exercise at the school during the hours of 8 a.m. through 5 p.m. that day, and not to be alarmed – this is just an exercise.

“The impact of the tragedy in Uvalde is felt by law enforcement officers across Texas and the nation,” said Lakeway Police Chief Glen Koen. “The officers and first responders who serve the Lake Travis region are committed to preparing for and stopping potential threats in the area.”
