The Public Works Department has releeased its ‘Safe Routes to School’ program draft Infrastructure Reports for Austin City Council Districts 1, 2, 8, and 9, along with an updated version of the District 10 Report.

Funded through the 2016’s $720-million Mobility Bond, the Safe Routes to School Program is currently developing Infrastructure Reports for all ten Austin City Council Districts, each identifying projects the city says will help elementary and middle school students safely walk and bicycle to school.  Projects are said to be ranked by benefit to the schools and communities, as well as cost benefit

The reports represent two years of community feedback collected through walk audits of 130 Austin schools, district-wide public meetings and pop-up events, and feedback submitted through an interactive online map, the city says. Recommendations within the Infrastructure Reports are planning-level concepts, as many projects will require further review before implementation.

Safe Routes will release reports for Districts 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 in the coming months. Depending on future funding, Safe Routes to School plans to update these reports every five years.
