One killed and one injured in Morning Officer involved shooting

Police shooting

For a second morning in a row, Austin police investigate an officer-involved shooting.

This began, according to Chief Brian Manley, as an off-duty officer was driving on Wickersham in his personal vehicle overnight when another car cut him off, then pointed a gun at the officer. Chief Manley says, “the officer fired at the suspect at this point. Multiple rounds were fired.” The other car then came to a stop farther down Wickersham and that’s when on-duty officers began to arrive.

The driver got out of the vehicle, refused commands by the police and opened their vehicle’s back door, “and as he reaches in the vehicle, the on-duty police officer fired shots at him, striking him.” That man died at the scene.

A female passenger was also in that person’s vehicle and was hit by gunfire, she was taken to the hospital for surgery and is in stable condition.

Two officers are on administrative leave. This is the second morning in a row for APD to deal with an officer-involved shooting. Two others were placed on leave yesterday.

The Office of Police Oversight says they are also looking into the shootings.
