RRPD Launches Annual ‘Operation Front Porch’

The fifth year of the Round Rock Police Department’s “Operation Front Porch” officially got underway on Monday.  With online shopping only getting more popular, officials are hoping to give residents more peace of mind as they shop for gifts this holiday season.  Through Operation Front Porch, residents can ship their packages to the police department for safe keeping.

“Each package RRPD receives is one less opportunity for package theft, which allows officers to focus on other calls for service,” the city said in a press release.

Operation Front Porch received the 2019 Leadership in Crime Prevention award from the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). The program was introduced in 2017, following a 2016 Holiday season that saw 13 reports of package thefts within Round Rock.

“Here’s how it works: Round Rock residents ship their online orders to their name and our address. We accept delivery of the package and store it for up to three days until the resident comes to pick it up,” officials said.  “Packages can be picked up during normal business hours. Extended weekday hours and Saturday pickups are available in December. The last day to pick up packages is December 23.”

There is no charge for this service.  For more information, visit RoundRockTexas.gov/frontporch.
