Getting City Employees To Give Up Smoking Is Costing Taxpayers Thousands

The city does not demand employees to quit smoking for health insurance benefits, so why are quit smoking programs costing taxpayers so much a year.

Austin mayor Will Wynn started the fittest city program for all city employees last year, hoping that Austin would become the fittest city across in nation by 2010. The program includes various classes for city employees, including smoking sensation classes for those wishing to, but not forced to quit smoking.

Kristy Hansen, The City's Wellness Coordinator says the smoking sensation classes cost tax payer 65-thousand dollars last year alone.
