City’s Traffic Median Plan not Top Notch

Top Notch Burgers with classic car

  • The City of Austin is planning traffic improvements along Burnet Road between 2222 and Mopac
  • The $50 million upgrade would use funding from the 2016 Mobility Bond
  • Part of the upgrade would include improvements like building medians and consolidating driveways
  • One of the medians proposed would be on Burnet Road across from Top Notch Burgers
  • Co-owner Kelly Chappell says he is concerned the median will block southbound traffic from turning left into his business and others nearby
  • The plan would also reduce Top Notch’s driveways from three to two which Chappell says would affect the flow of traffic from the business and may deter customers from dining
  • Director of Austin’s Corridor Program Office, Mike Trimble, says Burnet Road sees at least 40,000 cars a day and usually causes for concern in traffic is when car volume exceeds 20,000
  • An open house is scheduled to be hosted by the city to get input from residents and business owners:

Date: Tuesday, July 9

Time: 4-7 p.m.

Location: Saint John’s United Methodist Church (2140 Allandale Road)
