So Many Construction Jobs, Too Few Skilled Workers

  • According to Austin experts, construction in Austin is booming but there aren’t enough skilled workers to fulfill jobs
  • Due to the lack of skilled workers, projects are being delayed, quality of jobs is going down while prices are going up
  • Joe Basham, a lawyer specializing in construction law, says the shortage can be attributed to rising housing costs in Austin, few educational opportunities that focus on skilled trades and a tight labor market.
  • According to a study by the Associated General Contractors of America and Autodesk, more than three-fourths of Texas construction firms, and 80% nationwide, have reported having trouble hiring workers
