AISD signs off on 6-7% employee pay raises
Education Austin is celebrating as AISD Leaders officially signed off on 6 and 7% pay raises last night.
But the union’s President Ken Zarifis said the fight isn’t over for them. He explained the district needs to continue investing more. " We'd like to see an investment in at least a dozen community school coordinators. We'd like to see a way of shoring up out special ed. We'd like to see ARD facilitators be hired to help the process where we sit down with a child and his parents and decide what services and supports do they need."
Zarifis said teachers are staying put because of the raises, but added the district can’t let up just yet as Austin's cost of living wont be easing up either. "If we go back to our typical raises of 1 or 2%, those teachers are going to end up leaving. The City isn't going to get cheaper, the city isn't going to plateau next year. The City will cost more to live in next year. We have to keep up with that, the district has to keep up with that."
