June was another red-hot month in terms of job growth, according to the Texas Workforce Commission.  Along with the addition of 45,000 new jobs, the state unemployment rate hit a record low of 3.4-percent.  This new record is currently the lowest the unemployment rate has been since series tracking began in 1976, the TWC says.

“June’s unemployment rate is an historic win for employers and workers across the state,” said TWC Chair and Commissioner Representing Employers Ruth R. Hughs. “It is a reflection of our excellent businesses, skilled workforce, and the hard work of every Texan.”

Leading job growth for June was the Trade, Transportation, and Utilities industry adding 10,500 jobs, followed by Leisure and Hospitality which added 10,000 jobs, and Other Services adding 6,600 jobs.

The Midland Metropolitan Statistical Area recorded June’s lowest unemployment rate among Texas MSAs with a rate of 2.1-percent, followed by Amarillo, Austin-Round Rock, and Odessa, which recorded at 2.7 for the second lowest rate.

Here in the Austin-area, unemployment actually ticked upward in June to 2.7-percent, still well below the state average.  May’s rate for the area was 2.2-percent.

By the end of December, the Dallas Federal Reserve projects about 322,000 jobs to have been created throughout 2019 across the state.
