Councilmembers warn lawmakers, local businesses if stricter tax rate cap laws enacted

Councilmembers warn state lawmakers, local businesses if stricter tax rate cap laws are enacted

Councilmember Leslie Pool said if rate cap advocates get there way, they city would only have more reason to rework the business incentive program. She is joined by others on council, like Delia Garza.

Garza is concerned some businesses looking to benefit from incentives are advocating for the caps at the capital.

The Chamber’s Drew Scheberle said Council was merely voicing their hopes state lawmakers won’t change up tax ratification law and further limit how high the city could raise local taxes without a public vote.

Scheberle says this Council has kept it promises with business incentives parters thus far, and doesn’t see that changing.
