Family says Overton home should be preserved

Richard Overton was America’s oldest World War 2 veteran when he died at age 112 last December in Austin.  His dying wish was that his longtime East Austin home, which he built in 1948, would be preserved as a museum.  His cousin, Volma Overton Jr, says he was a champion of his fellow veterans, and his memory should live on through historic zoning,

The City of Austin is now giving serious considering to preserving the home through that historic designation.  Overton was the third-oldest human on the planet when he passed.
