Now that the legislature has ended, Governor Abbott has signed the spending bill that includes a one-million dollar public safety campaign for firearm storage. It was an idea pushed by the group Texas Gun Sense. Board Member Leesa Ross says this was personal to her because her son with killed in a gun accident when a loaded gun was left on a table. The public safety campaign, similar to Don’t Mess with Texas, will encourage gun owners to lock up their guns. It was opposed by the National Rifle Association.
