Iran Denies Attack, AISD to Spend More on Gay Pride, No Charter for North Austin

The Daily Dossier with Todd Jeffries

The U.S. military on Friday released a video it said shows Iran’s Revolutionary Guard removing an unexploded limpet mine from one of the oil tankers targeted near the Strait of Hormuz, suggesting the Islamic Republic sought to remove evidence of its involvement from the scene. Iran denies being involved, accusing the U.S. instead of waging an “Iranophobic campaign” against it.

The U.S. Navy rushed to assist the stricken vessels in the Gulf of Oman, off the coast of Iran, including one that was set ablaze Thursday by an explosion.

Texas City Bans Abortion, Calls Itself "A Sanctuary City For The Unborn"

Residents of an eastern Texas city needing abortion services will have to look elsewhere as local lawmakers passed a ban earlier this week.

Tuesday's vote declares Waskom, which sits on the Louisiana border, a "sanctuary city for the unborn."

Fearing that women could cross into the Lone Star State for the procedure following their neighbor's new restrictions, the City Council claims it's "standing for life," referring to abortion providers in the bill as "criminal organizations."

The Associated Press says Waskom's attorney expects there will be a legal challenge.

Following news that the Austin school district would donate $10,000 to a gay pride parade from revenue generated from renting the Performing Arts Center to a Georgetown-based church, AISD now says it has budgeted more than three-times that amount for next year.

$35,000 will be used to ship students to and from next year's parade in Austin, as well as fund AISD's independent gay pride festivities in October.

The full board will vote today on that request by Royal Public Schools.

The charter school wants to serve the area now covered by Burnet Middle School in the Austin Independent School District.

AISD opposed the charter school, saying it will take millione of dollars away from the district.
