Manor Superintendent Announces Departure

Manor Independent School District superintendent Royce Avery has announced his plan to part ways with the district.  Following a closed-door session at Wednesday night's board meeting, Avery returned to make that announcement official.

That closed-door meeting was in regard to Avery's contract, and whether or not it should be extended.

Avery says he will continue his position as superintendent until the end of the 2019-2020 school year, which is when his current contract will expire.  But given the fact that the school board opted not to renew that contract, there is speculation that the board had already made up its mind to look for a replacement in the coming years.  Avery's announcement was not met with a response from any member of the board.

Avery was hired three years ago following a rather tumultuous era under former superintendent Kevin Brackmeyer, including issues with district finances, lawsuits, and allegations of discrimination.  However, some those issues plagued some Brackmeyer's predecessors, too.

During his time at the helm, Avery has overseen the creation of a new elementary, middle, and high school campus.
