More hotel tax uses debated

The Austin Tourism Commission wants to start a conversation about how Hotel Occupancy Taxes can be spent by cities that collect them.

The State regulates how that money is spent and many times industry lobbying groups call shots. Vice Chair of the Tourism Commission Kate Singleton says cities could, for instance, use the HOT tax revenue for more police presence around tourist areas.

Singleton hopes at some point the issue is addressed with the city’s legislative agenda.
