Pflugerville girl finds life saving bone marrow match

Camryn Anderson

A young Pflugerville girl diagnose with a deadly disease called Aplastic Anemia, finally has a bone marrow donor match after 3 months of looking.

Little Cameryn Anderson’s father Pflugerville Police Sgt. Kurk Anderson said they are scheduled for a January 1st surgery, on one hand he is elated the search is over; on the other, terrified as the medical procedure is no cake walk and will see Camryn in a Houston hospital for at least 6 weeks.

After that he says the family will need to keep a residence near the hospital for at least three months as they shuttle Camryn back to the hospital daily for checkups and blood work, just to make sure the procedure took.

Sgt. Anderson says the donations that have come in have helped fund the family’s travels between Houston and Austin and hopes another fundraiser set for Thursday (Dec.6th) will help keep them afloat while he and his wife take turns being working parents to staying beside their child fulltime.

Anderson does hope to do more for the thousands of other children in need, who up until Friday (Nov. 30th) were just like Camryn, looking and hoping for a bone marrow match. Which is why the next fundraiser, he has teamed up with four area Chili’s restaurants to share in the profits and most of all, encourage people to get tested for a bone marrow match themselves, and quite possibly save a life.
