Scammers are targeting Austin Energy and Utility customers

More than a hundred Austin Energy and Austin Water Utility customers have gotten calls from scammers trying to steal money from them. Austin Energy's Jennifer Herber said either an automated call or an actual person will call and demand immediate payment or the service will be cut off.

Herber said some calls are robo-dialers while others are actual persons. City of Austin does not call residential customers with cut-off deadlines, however commercial customers may get a courtesy call two days before cut-off for non payment.

You're asked to call 3-1-1 if you get a call like that
