New standards from the federal Election Assistance Commission mirror very closely what Travis County's now-defunct Star Vote system included. Travis County Clerk Dana DeBeauvoir says the revelations of what Russians had done or not done to disrupt elections was also important.

"It became very very clear that what we really needed to focus on what our voter registration system," said DeBeauvoir.

She says the county is strengthening firewalls and limiting what IP addresses can communicate across the voting system pathways as they continue looking for a new system.
