Texas Beer bills get surprising support

Craft brewers are happy a lobbyist group for beer distributors has decided to support so called “beer to go bills.”

Texas Craft Brewers Guild Vice Chair and co-owner of Austin Beerworks Adam DeBower said he’s glad the once legislative adversary has turned ally, but added now is not the time to relax.

“We’re only 30-something days into the legislative session and there are 100 more in front of us and there’s still plenty of opportunities for things to go awry.” But DeBower continued, knowing they have a powerful partner is pushing forward this legislation is very gratifying.

Should the bills pass, Debower explained it’ll give his brewery and others like his, the ability to sell cases of beer to customers straight from the brewery.

Republican State Senator Dawn Buckingham and Democratic State Rep Eddie Rodriguez filed the companion bills that would allow the purchase of up to two cases of beer per day from breweries. State law currently allows Texas Wineries and distilleries the same right, Rodriguez says there is no reason breweries should be able to do the same.
