Texas Students Set Record ACT Score

20.7 is the average score for Texas students on the act exam. It’s the third year in a row Texas scores have gone up. The Texas Education Agency’s Debbie Ratcliff says there was improvement in every section of the test. "Our math scores went up .4, our English scores went up .3, our reading scores went up .3 and our science scores went up .1."

Ratcliff says even with Texas scores going up and the national average going down Texas students were still slightly below the national average (21.1) but she says if we continue to improve our students could catch that national average in two years.

She says some of this improvement could be attributed to new requirements that students take tougher college-prep courses in high school.
