Today Commissioners approved issuing debt for $328 million for new facility
Jan. 15, 2019

Travis County Commissioner vote unanimously to borrow $328 million dollars for a new County Courthouse to replace the 87-year-old facility three years after voters rejected a similar proposal. That fact was not lost on Commissioner Gerald Daugherty, but he maintains it's the right thing to do.
Judge Sarah Eckhart said voters rejected a specific proposal for a specific location and funding mechanism. The land where that courthouse was to be built was sold by the county for a profit. The new courthouse will be downtown on land already owned.
