The Austin Police Department is pressing the city for an increase to non-consent towing fees, which has been $150 since 2006. Commander Eric Miesse says the current fee has fallen below the market rate, and thus the city is losing money.
He says a rate increase would also put Austin in line with other surrounding areas. Travis County’s fee is the highest in Central Texas at $275.
