Travis County Commissioners supports two bills involving McKalla Place

As Travis County Commissioners grouse over being left out of ad valorem taxes on an MLS soccer stadium at McKalla Place, they point to an instance where they share tax revenue with the city on land they own.

Commissioner Brigid Shea mentioned the land in downtown Austin that was supposed to be a new courthouse complex that voters rejected and was subsequently being redeveloped.  Shea also said that we still own the property and the improvments to the property will be taxable, it was designed that way.

Commissioner Gerald Daugherty said that its not fair that all taxing authorities should not have a say, and that’s why both bills are good legislation.

Commissioners say while what the city did may have been legal, it certainly wasn’t fair to them or the other taxing bodies.
