Two AISD schools named after Confederate leaders close to getting new names

Of the five Austin school district campuses slated for name changes, the school board is nearing a final decision on both Fulmore Middle School and Allan Elementary.  Fulmore will likely become Sarah Beth Lively Middle School.  As for Allan, it's new namesake is expected to be Anita Ferrales Coy.  But others, like Lanier High School, may not see a name change quite as soon because at least one trustee wants more community input.

There's also still debate about John H. Reagan High School because the most-widely accepted recommendation is to keep the name, and drop the first name, and that doesn't sit well with some, like Trustee Ted Gordon, who say it's still a name that's tied to slavery.
