UT Engineers Could Revolutionize Water Purification Around The World

A discovery made in Austin by UT engineers could revolutionize water purification around the world. Professor Guihua Yu of the Cockrell School of Engineering says inexpensive solar powered hydrogels he and his team developed can turn even the saltiest or contaminated water into safe drinking water very quickly. He also states that not only can water be made safe during disasters but solar powered water evaporation processes will change.

His researchers used what's called hydrogels, a simple and inexpensive technology combined with solar energy to produce clean drinking water from any source, even sea water or contaminated water...

Yu says this will not only revolutionize solar water evaporation, it could be used during disasters to make water safe.
