Zebra mussels threatening Leander's raw water pumps

Zebra mussels are beginning to threaten the raw water lines of Leander, Cedar Park, and Round Rock.  Leander City Engineer Wayne Watts says because the mussels are multiplying in the pumps, if something isn’t done soon the lines will have to be completely dug up.

The city council has approved spending almost $566-thousand dollars for its portion of this project.  In total, all three cities are expected to spend more than $1.4-million to fight the mussel invasion.
