Austin Democrat Congressman Lloyd Doggett wants to bring more transparency to big pharma.

Despite the resistance he's getting from republicans on his drug pricing legislation, Doggett is pushing forward with his initiatives. "I've personally introduced legislation to prevent the practice of pharmaceutical manufacturers buying off generic competitors to prevent competition; and to require more information about the cost and development of drugs."

Doggett speaking on the House floor says, "On all these measures, we have asked for action to have these bills considered. The Republican Chairman won't approve our having hearings on these bills. In fact, they won't even approve having any hearings to discuss the issue of drug prices."

Doggett says Republicans are shielding big pharma and enabling higher drug prices. "Because they block our getting action on these bills, we look for opportunities to offer amendments to advance the issue."
