Should the defenders of the Alamo be referred to as heroes?

The influence of Moses on the US Constitution and whether the defenders of the Alamo were heroes is under debate as the State Board of Education reviews public school standards, the board will hold a final vote on the new standards in November.

University of Mary Washington Professor Emile Lester told members of the State Board that suggesting Moses and the 10 commandments influenced the US Constitution wouldn’t even pass muster in an undergraduate paper.

Stephen Cure of the Texas State Historical Association suggested changing “all the heroic defenders who gave their lives at the Alamo to "the heroic nature of the diverse participants in the siege"
