After the Special Session deals with Sunset legislation, the next priorities involve education. Association of Texas Professional Educators lobbyist Mark Wiggins said during the regular session, the proposed bills were put forth as anti-public education and anti-teacher legislation. Wiggins said, vouchers were sold as a way to get some students the help they need. But in reality Wiggins explained the voucher program would surrender students' rights, and he continued, the payroll deduction bill was presented as anti-union legislation, but specifically targeted teachers more than any other state employee.
