Texas Leading Way Toward North American Energy Independence
According to the American Petroleum Institute, the entire North American continent could soon be energy independent.
Head of the Texas Oil and Gas Association, Todd Staples, says Texas is a big part of the reason for that prediction, because of new techniques to get fossil fuels out of the ground. He attributes Texas's new point in energy production to a combination of hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling.
The American Petroleum Institute says by the year 2020, the entire North American Continent could be energy independent in supplying its own liquid fuel.
