UPDATE Texas Senate Race Beto v. Cruz

Cruz claims victory

Senate Race

Sen. Ted Cruz (52.4%) has claimed victory over challenger Rep. Beto O'Rourke (46.9%)

Cruz has fended off rising-star Democrat Beto O'Rourke to win re-election in a much-watched Texas Senate race that began as a cakewalk but needed a visit from President Donald Trump to help push the incumbent over the top. Fresh off a long 2016 presidential run, Cruz began the Senate race as a prohibitive favorite. But O'Rourke visited fiercely conservative areas and racked up record fundraising. Polls eventually got close enough that Trump visited Houston on Cruz's behalf.
