WEEKDAY NEWS REPORTER
Albuquerque born and Houston raised Eric Leikam began broadcasting in 1978. “As soon as I got my driver’s license the first place I drove to was a radio station.” Eric studied journalism graduating Clear Lake HIgh School in 1980 and briefly attending University of Houston before the lure of radio snagged him for good. Since then Eric’s career saw him on-air on legendary Houston stations 97 Rock, Power 104 KRBE and Z-107. In 1995 Eric relocated to Austin and resurfaced on KLBJ-FM where he remained for about three years until being recruited to crosstown rock station KUTZ (now KUTX). Eric and his future ex-wife Shelly Knight were hired for mornings on New Orleans’ rock legend WRNO-FM in 1997 before returning to Austin about a year later. He bounced around KLBJ-FM and Majic 95.5 before being asked to join Emmis Austin’s KGSR in 2004. Eric stayed on KGSR as an air personality and producer while serving as the traffic reporter for FOX 7 News from 2008-2009. He left the KGSR airwaves for the Sound Design department at Emmis in 2013. From time to time Eric would fill in as Newsradio KLBJs traffic reporter and in September of 2014 was asked by Todd Jeffries to join the reporting staff where he is working now.
