An arrest has been made in connection to the death of a man on July 1 in the Kerbey Lane Cafe parking lot on South Lamar.
According to Austin police, officers arrived on-scene and found the man lying in the parking lot. He has since been identified as Mark Barbosa. Despite attempts to save his life, Barbosa was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators say Barbosa was there to pick up his girlfriend. Another man, Jacob Turner, was there to pick up his girlfriend as well, along with a friend. Police believe Barbosa was approached by Turner, and an altercation escalated into Barbosa being physically assaulted by Turner and falling to the ground. Turner, his friend, and Turner’s girlfriend all then left the parking lot.
The cause of death was found to be blunt force trauma, and ruled a homicide.
Turner was booked into the Travis County Jail for 1st Degree Murder.
The case is being investigated as Austin’s 32nd murder of the year.
