3. BUDGET SEASON AT AUSTIN CITY HALL

Austin City leaders will take up the city budget this week. Some activists say money set aside to add 30 police officers, would be better spent on Austin Travis County EMS So they could help carry the mental health load.  Austin Police Association President Ken Casaday weighed in on that.

“I think the city should go out and find the money to do what they want to do,” he said.  “I think some of the ideas of EMS being able to relieve the pressure by answering some of the mental health calls is a good idea.”

4.  AUSTIN TACKLES CLIMATE CHANGE

Taxpayers may soon be footing the bill for another newly created executive position in Austin.  

The city manager is in search of a new Climate Resiliency Officer who would be paid as much as $150,000 a year to act as the point person for climate-related issues.  This month, Austin became the first southern U.S. city to declare a climate emergency.
