Hays County is in the midst of building a new correctional facility but it won’t be ready until the middle of next year. Travis County would be one of seven entities across the state which could accommodate some of those inmates. Kristin Dark with the Travis County Sheriffs Office said the new Hays County Jail is months away from completion and that Travis could take in up to fifty of their inmates.
Dark also said Travis County would take up to 50 Hays County jail inmates and Travis’s costs would be paid for by Hays County.
