Bad smelling water is slowly leaving the Austin Water Utility System.

According to Austin Water Utility Director Greg Meszaros, the good news is the water plant where most of the problems origninated has been sending out clean water since the weekend.
, “We’re not producing water anymore that smells. This weekend our taste and odor index was down to zero, which is the lowest that you can have. We continue to feed powder activated carbon which helps us.”

The bad news is some customers in far South Austin may still experience some smelly water in the system but Meszaros say says that should not be a problem any more within a couple of days. Most of tainted water was in South Austin and part of downtown. Some customers complained the utility was not clear in its explanation of what they could expect. He says they’ll stay on this until every customer has good high-quality water once again.
