The Austin school district is getting some support from the Austin City Council through a new resolution aimed at identifying publicly owned land that could lead to more subsidized housing.
Council member Greg Casar said it may be a great way to bolster enrollment numbers at struggling schools while also protecting East Austin from gentrification.
The city says it wants a mutually beneficial partnership with AISD. The district is expected to see an enrollment decline of 9-percent within the next decade.
