A dozen campuses may be at risk for closure within the Austin school district

The 12 campuses potentially facing closure have not been identified, but according to a Statesman report, two may be shutdown by next year, seven by 2020, and final three by 2021.  The idea here is to stop the bleeding as AISD faces a $65-million budget shortfall next year, which will come after the district spent $30-million from its reserves this year to cover the current shortfall.

This is just one of 91 different ideas in a proposal this week handed out to the school board to make about $55-million in budget cuts.  A steady stream of departing students is also hurting AISD’s bottom line as enrollment has dropped by more than 1600 just this year alone.
