Austin Community College (ACC) and Texas Tech University (TTU) announce the launch of the TechTeach Across Texas Program at ACC. The program offers ACC graduates with an Associate of Arts in Teaching a seamless transfer into Tech’s fast-track, one-year bachelor’s degree program.
“This is a unique collaboration that will benefit our students and our community,” says Dr. Richard Rhodes, ACC president/CEO. “When we partner together we enhance accessibility and drive success. I’m excited to join Texas Tech in this great program. Together, we will build a stronger teacher workforce in Central Texas.”
Offered in partnership with Austin ISD, the program includes a full year of intensive clinical experience in AISD classrooms and frequent certification exam practice. Students stay in Austin and advance from an associate to a bachelor’s degree in a single year while earning a teacher certification.
“This new model of teacher preparation brings the best assets of each institution to help ensure our teacher-graduates are well prepared, and Austin ISD has steady access to an increasing pool of teacher talent who are explicitly committed to the students, community and goals of the district,” says Dr. Doug Hamman, TTU Teacher Education chair.
The program will be available beginning summer 2018.
“Growing up I was surrounded by teachers who inspired me to do more. They saw potential in me,” says Maria Saucedo, ACC Education Instruction student. “That kind of support helped me realize that I wanted to do the same thing for others. I knew early on that I was made to teach. I can’t wait to get in the classroom and start working with students while working toward my teacher certification.”
In order to apply students must meet the following admission requirements:
·Complete an Associate of Arts in Teaching.
·Have a minimum GPA of 2.75.
·Have 66 transferable credit hours.
·Have completed two years of foreign language in high school or earned two semesters of foreign language credits in college.
