Austin Crime Commission unsatisfied with city's budget for APD

The Austin Crime Commission is crying foul as the city’s current draft of the budget only allows for 15 police officers to be added to the force, that’s 1/3rd of what they and city plans were looking for and the Commission’s Pete Winstead said they were looking for more. Winstead also said that response times are being affected by this, he said if the goal for APD response time is eight minutes, it’s going to be twelve now and that four minutes could really hurt.

Winstead said the Matrix report payed for by the city, suggested the police coverage in Austin is one of the worst in the country and needs at least 102 more cops, and by their count, the Austin Crime Commission says APD needs about 4 new cops every ten days.
