With October being breast cancer awareness month, you see a lot of pink. But scammers are picking up on that, which has brought about a phenomenon called “pinkwashing”. Austin Better Business Bureau’s Erin Dufner says that means someone who misleads you into buying something pink and claiming proceeds are going to support breast cancer research or treatment but actually don’t.
Dufner says many times businesses don’t intentionally pinkwash but consumers need to be aware of what they’re getting and where their money is going.
