Towing companies in Austin may soon be banned from charging $150 to remove boots on the wheels of a car. Police are trying to limit price gouging when state deregulation takes effect next month, but Anthony Martinez with Republic Parking Enforcement said limiting the fees to only $50 would put people out of business unless they just take the cars away on site to recoup that lose.
Three council members voted against the plan, but two others abstained. Because the resolution failed to get the needed seven votes, council will discuss it again on August 23 in hopes of seeing a few revisions.
